GWERU – Shesham Football Club midfielder Frankson Bushiri died in a horror accident in Gweru early Sunday after his vehicle careered off the road, hit a fence and a tree which cut the vehicle in half.
Witnesses said the former TelOne player was unrecognisable after the 6AM crash.
He was driving into Gweru from Kwekwe when the accident occurred near Regina Mundi High School.
A security guard who was guarding a property near the road said: “I heard the sound of a speeding vehicle and then the sound suddenly changed. When I looked up I see a vehicle coming off the road at speed.
“It hit a tree and became seperated in two. One half of the vehicle remained next to the tree while the other half with the engine was propelled further forward some 15 meters or so.”
Bushiri’s head was severed during the impact, the security guard said.
The footballer, who was in his 30s, is believed to have had trials lined up with Grain Tigers and Hwange this week.
Police are investigating the cause of the crash.
