Prominent Zimbabwean opposition leader Job Sikhala has been granted bail by the Pretoria Magistrates Court and will return to court on February 3, 2026.
The former Zengeza West Member of Parliament was arrested alongside his elderly uncle, Alexander Ferrowst Thema (78), in South Africa for allegedly travelling with explosives. He said that he was the victim of a Zanu PF setup.
His lawyer, Eric Mabuza, said that Sikhala had travelled to South Africa for medical treatment, not to engage in criminal activity. Sikhala, who previously spent over 500 days in pretrial detention in Zimbabwe under harsh conditions, said the latest incident was politically motivated.
